Washington Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, the WA Armed Forces Initiative, and Trash No Land will partner with WA Department of Natural Resources on Oct 8th, 2022, in hosting a 2-part event “Garbage and Grouse Round-up”, in Elbe Hills State Forest.  Meet at 8 AM!

 

The Cleanup!

Part 1 in the morning will be filled with the clean-up of trash left at several shooting sites located on public land, with partner organizations and general public volunteers.  All are welcome!

 

The Hunt!

Part 2, occurring in the afternoon, AFI members that participated in the clean up, will stroll along the gated roads of Elbe Hills in search for Washington’s various grouse species, affectionately known as “Wood Chicken”.  The hunting portion will be limited to 20 AFI members which must participate in the morning clean-up.  Those members will be selected based on safety criteria, determined through the review of a pre-participation survey (RSVP).  Hosted by Washington Backcountry Hunters & Anglers.

From Elbe, WA, go East on WA 706 National Park Hwy, for 6 miles.  Turn Left (North) on 278th Ave E for .6 miles.  Follow left onto Stoner Rd/Sf 1142 Rd 1 mile.  Direction signs will be posted.

Bring outdoor clothing and gloves. If you have them, bring rakes, shovels, trash pickers and/or magnet tools.

Sign-in and safety meeting at 8 AM with morning coffee, donuts and good conversation with people you’ll be glad to meet.

Cleanup 8:45 AM to 12 Noon.

Lunch & prizes at 12 PM.  You will be treated to a Burgers & Dogs lunch!  Several prizes will be given away via a free raffle (Tickets handed out to all volunteers at 8 AM).

In addition, one special prize will be drawn for an AFI member!  A custom hand carved “Constitution Bat” (by NORTHWOODS CARVING).

  

1:00 PM Part 1 Cleanup Event Concludes. Enjoy recreation in the awesome Elbe Hills State Forest!

All are welcome!  We recommend children be of age 12 or older and be under adult supervision as there may be hazardous materials and sharp objects.

Firearm Policy:  Handling or use of a firearm during event hours is not allowed at our events and is not an official part of our events.  You may recreate as you wish after the event concludes.
